Step Back in Time at A Day of Knights at Clitheroe Castle
Prepare for an action-packed day of medieval adventure as Clitheroe Castle welcomes back the Silver School of Arms for its popular Day of Knights event this summer.
Taking place on Sunday 23rd August 2026, this free family-friendly event promises thrilling displays of sword fighting, medieval combat demonstrations and the chance to discover the fascinating world of historical European martial arts in one of Lancashire’s most iconic heritage settings.
Experience Medieval Combat Up Close
Throughout the day, the Silver School of Arms will bring history to life with exciting demonstrations of authentic medieval fighting techniques.
Visitors can watch skilled martial artists showcase a range of historic weapons, including longswords, arming swords, rapiers, daggers and buckler shields, all based on genuine historical examples.
Every display is performed in period costume using techniques inspired by original medieval fighting manuals, making for a fascinating and educational experience.

As well as the live combat displays, you’ll have the opportunity to chat with members of the Silver School of Arms, learn about medieval weaponry and discover how knights trained for battle centuries ago.

A Day of Knights is designed for visitors of all ages, making it an ideal family day out during the summer holidays.
Children can marvel at the sword fighting demonstrations while adults explore the historic grounds of Clitheroe Castle, one of the smallest Norman keeps in England and a landmark that has watched over the Ribble Valley for more than 800 years.
The event is free to attend, although normal admission charges apply if you wish to visit the museum galleries. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
