Lovely pub. Food was brilliant and staff really helpful and accommodating. Dog friendly and you can’t beat an open fire on a cold day.

Stayed for a wedding. Contrary to other reviews we were really impressed with the standard of the room and decor – cosy and modern. The shower ran cold to freezing- no hot water at all. The room was a bit stuffy as the windows didn’t open.
    Breakfast was lovely.
However this place is let down by the staff and lack of customer service.
The waiting staff are about 15 years old and run ragged- doing everything from bar service, to waiting tables, to checking in/out guests.
Consequently they come across as rude and forgetful.
Not once we’re we asked how our meal was, how the room was, did we enjoy our stay.
Stunning views and the walks by the river are amazing.
A lovely cosy pub in a quiet location, sadly let down by management and under staffing, unfortunately, probably a sign of the times.

Lovely pub, great food and service. We had the pigs in blankets to share followed by a home cooked Kiev for me and chicken in a cheese and leek sauce for my husband. There was a wedding on in the pub as we arrived so we expected no food, but were delighted when there was and super impressed how smoothly everything ran. The pub is at the start and finish of the Tolkien trail and is in a lovely spot within the village of Hurst Green.

We had a lovely time here on Sunday after our walk around the Tolkien Trail! Gorgeous pub with lovely staff and the food was delicious -we had the beef brisket roast dinner! Definitely recommend booking if coming on a weekend, we did book but noticed a few groups of walkers that had to be turned away. We’ll be back!

I’m setting this review now. As a time stamp , it is now 6:40 pm..
I have just completed Tolkien trail..
    And?
I had the ill luck of being.. Given service in this wretched establishment, which made me feel quite unwelcome.
