Waddington Fayre, Duck Race and Scarecrow Festival Returns for a Quacking Good Day Out
One of the Ribble Valley’s most beloved community events is back this summer as the Waddington Fayre, Duck Race and Scarecrow Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary with a fantastic day of family fun, entertainment and village tradition. Taking place on Sunday 28th June, this free event promises something for all ages in the picturesque village of Waddington.
A Ribble Valley Tradition
For a quarter of a century, visitors from across Lancashire and beyond have flocked to Waddington to enjoy this unique celebration of community spirit.
The event combines a traditional village fayre, a colourful scarecrow festival and the famous duck race that sees thousands of plastic ducks racing down the village brook.
This year’s event marks the festival’s 25th anniversary, making it an extra special occasion.
The Main Event: 3,000 Ducks Race Down the Brook
The highlight of the day takes place at 3pm, when an incredible 3,000 ducks are released into the brook to compete in the annual duck race.
Spectators line the banks to cheer on their chosen duck as they make their way downstream in one of the Ribble Valley’s most entertaining traditions.
Scarecrows Around the Village
As you wander through Waddington’s charming streets, you’ll discover a wonderful collection of imaginative scarecrows displayed throughout the village.

The festivities begin at 11am with the traditional Almshouses Fayre, featuring:

Getting There
To make travelling easier, a free shuttle bus service will operate between Clitheroe and Waddington from 12 noon until 5pm.
Visitors should note that the village road will be closed between 10am and 7pm on the day of the event.
